Unique Asheville: Local eyesore

  • Towering 220 feet above downtown Asheville’s predominantly historic and colorful architecture, Western North Carolina’s tallest building sure does stand out. Built in 1965, the gray monstrosity of glass, concrete and metal continues to serve as a testament to the pitfalls of inappropriate planning, design and development. However, the views are much better from the inside: the windows offer those who work in its chambers outstanding vistas of town and the surrounding hills. — J.F.
